Abstract

The book Pedagogical Approaches to Children’s Play in an Institutional Context examines the evolution of early and preschool play in Croatian educational settings from 1878 to 2017. Spanning a period of significant societal modernization, it analyzes the role of play through various curricular frameworks. 

The book is structured as follows: Part I: On the Play of Early and Preschool Children – Introduces theoretical perspectives and contemporary characteristics of child’s play. Part II: Different Starting Points of Institutional Early and Preschool Education – Defines key pedagogical frameworks, programs, and curricula. Part III: Play as a Component of Various Starting Bases – Analyzes the specific position of play within these various sources. 

The book concludes with a comparative overview of the role of play in different institutional frameworks.
