FFST Open Press is the open-access publishing platform for the digital publications of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Split. The Faculty maintains a continuous and significant publishing activity, and the publications available through FFST Open Press are produced within its organizational units, primarily its departments, research centres, and centres for lifelong learning.
From 2026 onwards, all publications of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Split, will be made available in open access through the FFST Open Press platform. At the same time, previously published print editions will be gradually digitized and released as e-books, making works that were formerly available only in print freely accessible online. A catalogue of publications issued before 2026, covering the Faculty’s complete publishing output up to that year, is available in the Catalogue.
What does FFST Open Press publish?
FFST Open Press publishes scholarly monographs, edited volumes, conference proceedings, and university textbooks in the fields of the social sciences and humanities.
Peer Review
All scholarly publications of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Split, undergo an independent peer-review process.
For scholarly monographs, reviewers are appointed by the Faculty’s Publishing Committee.
For edited volumes, reviewers of individual chapters are appointed by the editors, while reviewers of the volume as a whole are appointed by the Publishing Committee.
Open Access
Books published through FFST Open Press are made available in open access, providing users with “free, unrestricted, and permanent online access to digital scholarly information, enabling reading, downloading, storing, distributing, searching, retrieving, indexing, and/or any other lawful use,” in accordance with the Croatian Declaration on Open Access, the Croatian Open Science Plan, and the Open Science Policy of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Split.
Copyright and Terms of Use
All books published through FFST Open Press are distributed under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0), which permits the use, sharing, and adaptation of the material, provided appropriate credit is given to the author(s) and the original source.
Authors of e-books published in FFST Open Press may deposit their publications in repositories, share them through social media, and distribute them by other means to increase their visibility and impact. In all cases, authors should provide a link to the original publication in FFST Open Press, preferably by citing the publication’s DOI.
New Scholarly Monographs
For newly submitted scholarly monographs, authors sign a Publishing Agreement under which they retain copyright while granting the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Split, a non-exclusive right to publish, reproduce, and distribute the work in print and/or electronic form. Authors retain the right to reuse and republish the work, in whole or in part, provided that the original publication by the Faculty is properly acknowledged.
In agreement with the author, the publisher decides whether a book will be published exclusively as an online open-access publication or both as a printed book and an open-access online publication. The electronic open-access edition is published under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0).
Edited Volumes and Conference Proceedings
In edited volumes and conference proceedings, the authors of individual chapters retain full copyright to their contributions. Upon submission, however, authors sign a publishing agreement consenting to the publication of their work in open access under the terms of the CC BY 4.0 licence.

Publications Originally Issued in Print before 2026
For books originally published in print before 2026 and subsequently made available as e-books, authors retain full copyright while granting the Faculty permission to publish the work in digital form in open access under the terms of the CC BY 4.0 licence.
