The collected works of Professor Stijepo Obad (1930. – 2021.), PhD, brought together in a single volume, cover a broad spectrum of Dalmatian history, spanning the period from the beginning of the so-called Second Austrian Administration to the end of the First World War. All of the studies are distinguished by their clarity and synthetic approach. The volume addresses essential topics in the history of nineteenth-century Dalmatia, including Dalmatia during the Revolution of 1848–1849; the founding and publication of Zora Dalmatinska; the challenges of dalmatian rural development; brigandage (hajduks) in Dalmatia; issues related to the Croatian National Revival in Split, Trogir, Pag, Rab, and the Split hinterland; the development of education in Dalmatia; the emergence of the labour movement; and a range of indispensable topics concerning 19th century Dubrovnik.
