Abstract
The sources for the life of Antonio Brocardo are poor and do not allow for a detailed reconstruction of his biography, especially for the early years. The querelle between the young Venetian poet and the more famous Pietro Bembois is well-known and has already been developed in previous studies. In this article I would like to deepen the story of Brocardo’s life before that querelle, in which Pietro Aretino – in defence of Bembo and pro domo sua – also intervened.
