Firstly, it discusses the museum\u2019s replacement of the term \u201cGolden Age\u201d with the \u201cmore descriptive term\u201d \u201c17th century\u201d when labelling exhibitions and collections of artworks from that period, since the term \u201cGolden Age\u201d allegedly reinforces the so-called \u201ccollective amnesia\u201d regarding the Dutch colonial past. Secondly, it examines the consequent renaming of the museum\u2019s semi-permanent collection from \u201cDutchmen of the Golden Age\u201d to \u201cPortrait Gallery of the 17th Century.\u201d Thirdly, it focuses on a photographic exhibition, the first in a series of new perspectives presented by contemporary creators in the context of Black Achievement Month, titled \u201cDutch Masters Revisited\u201d and portraying 17th-century Dutch people of colour in colonial outfits. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This article analyses three recent gestures by the Amsterdam Museum.
