The sample consisted of 205 first-year students of the Faculty of primary education. Results of this research show that mathematical knowledge of future primary school teachers is inadequate. A prerequisite for mathematical knowledge is being familiar with a very well developed mathematical terminology and symbols without which mathematical science becomes \u201chard to understand\u201d.
